Many
students travel to a vast variety of countries and locations either
during their University vacations or at the end of their degree
course. It is very important to be aware of the hazards to health
that exist in many of the countries that you may visit and take
the appropriate precautions early enough for them to be effective.
Because we live in a country where many of the most serious infectious
diseases are kept under control, it is very easy to forget the risks
to health when travelling abroad.
MAKE
SURE THE ONLY THING YOU WILL BE CARRYING BACK IS YOUR BAG OR SUITCASE!
Don't
take risks! If you are planning to travel abroad in the
next 6 months contact your GP surgery now for advice - do not leave
it too late to get the vaccinations you might need, as many should
be given some time in advance of your departure to give you optimum
immunity. We run a regular travel clinic at the University
Health Centre. This clinic is very busy during the summer term and
therefore you should book your appointment early. There may
be a charge for some of the vaccinations but the advice is free,
up to date and we will answer any queries you might have.
