CONTRACEPTION |
If you’ve had unprotected sex, emergency contraception can stop you becoming pregnant.
But you need to act quickly - the longer you leave it after having sex, the more likely you are to become pregnant.
NHS Direct is offering a free confidential help line for anyone worried about the need for emergency contraception, including a confidential online chat which you can access now!
See our page on EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION in conjunction with NHS Direct
Emergency contraception (the "morning after pill") can be prescribed to registered
and non-registered patients. Women should take this within 72 hours
of unprotected sex and preferably nearer 24 hours. The reception staff
will arrange an appointment with the doctor taking note of these time
constraints and using the emergency slots at the end of a surgery
if necessary.
Levonelle is the morning-after pill - it is not a substitute for regular contraception such as the oral contraceptive pill.
Advice and supply of Levonelle is avialable from:- |

| SEXUAL HEALTH
& CERVICAL CYTOLOGY |
| The practice nurses
hold a regular weekly clinic on sexual health issues from midway in
the first term to the end of the third term. Male or female students
should contact Reception at the Health Centre for an appointment.
The practice nurses are fully trained in family planning and associated
issues. They will give absolutely confidential advice and counselling
on any sexual health matter. |
| New students who are
already using a contraceptive pill should arrange to see one of the
practice nurses early in the first term so that arrangements can be
put in hand to issue a regular prescription for their particular pill. |
| If you are sexually
active or maybe so in the future and wish to arrange appropriate contraception
you should discuss the options with the practice nurse. If you decide
that a contraceptive pill or certain other methods may be appropriate
you will need to see one of the doctors. Condoms are available at
the health centre. |
| There is a systematic
initiation and recall system to offer cervical smears as appropriate
to our registered female patients. This is organised by Coventry Primary Care Trust and implemented by our practice nurses. |
