The Health Centre staff |
|
There are two general medical practices based at the University
of Warwick Health Centre :
Drs Cowan, Jones, Thornton, Shields,
Butler, Dyer and Jawad (also known as "Pink" practice) at
Allesley Park Medical Centre
and
Drs Parker, Durr, Whidborne, Majevadia
Green and Wilson. (also known as "Blue" practice) at
Broomfield Park Medical Centre
There are both female and male doctors in each practice and both
practices provide a full traditional general medical service. |
| The University
Health Centre, which is located on the main campus (see
MAP), is open Monday to Friday; from 09.00 to 18.00 during
term time and 09.00 to 17.00 during vacations. The doctors have 20
surgeries a week during term time and 10 surgeries per week during
the vacations. As well as the doctors there are two Nurse Practitioners and two
Practice Nurses with whom individuals can book appointments
between 09.00 and 17.30 for advice, dressings, injections etc.. There
is not a doctor available on site at all times. In addition the
nurses provide sexual health and travel
clinics, both of which operate with appointment systems. There
are physiotherapy sessions to which
the doctors can refer patients. |
| If you
are ill you will be given an appointment with the GP or a Nurse Practitioner at the health
centre as early as possible - contact the health centre as soon as
possible for an appointment with a GP from your practice.A few appointments
are kept free until the day of the session for patients with medically
urgent problems. See our guide to Doctors and Nurses appointments. |
Daytime
Monday - Friday : Contact the Health Centre directly -
Visit or Telephone 7652 4888 or Int ext 24888.
If it is impossible for you to attend the health centre because
you are too ill, contact the reception before 10.00am if possible
to ask for a visit where you are resident. It is important that you
confirm your correct address with the health centre. |
When
the health centre is closed then arrangements can be made for
an emergency consultation. Full details are provided when registering
with a practice. CLICK HERE |
If you need
to see a doctor urgently in evenings, nights, weekends : ring
the doctor with whom you are registered:
Dr Cowan & Partners (The "pink"
practice) Allesley Park: Tel: 7667 4123
Dr Parker & Partners (The "blue"
practice) Broomfield: Tel: 7622 8606 |
| Emergency
contraceptive advice is available for registered patients
by appointment with the doctor. Generally, if you are registered with
another GP in the vicinity, the doctors in the two practices can only
see you in a medical emergency. |
| In your
own interests you are strongly advised to
register with one of the GP practices if you are resident
on the campus or within the catchment area of the south-west half
of Coventry. If you are resident outside these areas you are still
strongly advised to register with a practice for the area in which
you are resident |
|
|
| Non-registration
can cause difficulties in an emergency or if you are ill, especially
at night or over weekends. New students living on campus must register
as soon as possible after arrival at the University, preferably
during the first week of term or during the university enrolment procedure.
Students should bring the following:- |
the
NHS number (if previously registered with a GP in the UK) |
the
name & address of the present/last GP |
details
of all past immunisations, particularly polio & tetanus |
information
on significant past medical history |
| and if
registering children it is vital to bring all this information
especially an accurate record of past vaccinations and/or immunisations
for the children. It is recommended that you visit the Health Centre
as soon as possible for an initial consultation. |
| Students
not resident on campus can register with either practice if resident
within the catchment area broadly covering south-west Coventry. Leamington
Spa and Kenilworth are outside the catchment area and students must register with
a doctor serving that area. If students registered with either practice
change their address here during the course of their time at the university
it is important that the health centre is notified promptly. During
vacations treatment can be obtained as a temporary patient from a
doctor in your home area. |
use the NHS website to find GPs in your area |
| International
students resident here on a programme of study lasting more
than three months are entitled to NHS Primary Health care. Students
on programmes of less than three months will not be covered by the
NHS unless they come from a country which has a reciprocal agreement
with the UK and then only if the need for treatment arises while the
student is resident here in the UK. Students on programmes of study
of less than 3 months duration should therefore take out private
medical insurance before arrival in the UK if possible. |
|
After registering with a doctor full details of services will be
given to each student. |
